If by 2073 the sea level rises drastically, other cities will become seaside resorts. In my mind this song is, again sarcastically, a commercial for those new seaside resorts and their seafood specialties. Overfishing is a huge problem of today. The saying “plenty of other fish in the sea” is based upon a reality that is no more. There aren’t plenty. Many species have already gone extinct because of overfishing.
We need to protect our oceans now. That’s the main message underneath.
The idea for the lyrics came to me after watching a documentary called Seaspiracy. We already had a lot of ideas recorded on drums, bass and guitar. The harmonics of Jean’s riff in the beginning of the song gave me a feeling of being under water. That’s what matched the lyrics with the music for me.
I’m a big fan of maps, I’ve even been a geology teacher for a while. I really had fun reinventing the map of Europe, even though it’s not really accurate. Like in most of our songs, the words are used to exaggerate a little.
